CeCe and Isabella’s Take on the 2025 GRAMMYs: A Mother and Teenager’s Perspective
The 2025 GRAMMYs were truly a special moment in music history, one we’ll look back on for years to come. After the heart-wrenching devastation caused by the LA fires, there were doubts about whether the event would even take place. Many people, including friends and clients, lost their homes, documents, and had to cope with smoke damage, insurance struggles, and a long road ahead. But despite all of that, the show went on, and it became more than just a celebration of music, it was a way to raise awareness and funds for fire relief. The entire music community came together with such strength. I have been at the Grammys before reporting for OK magazine, and this year I was not planning to be there, but I had a feeling it would be extra special, so I decided to cover this on my own platform, my website and YouTube, and I am so glad that I decided to this as it clearly was a special year indeed.
As always, the nominees and winners are chosen by peers, songwriters, producers, engineers, and fellow artists, so I want to give a huge congratulations to our UK , British creatives who are clearly talented, amazing people who were singled out, for example, the first time Grammy nominee RAYE to Cynthia being a guest performer, and I saw that when she was interviewed on the red carpet, she was really acknowledged that not everyone could sing the song in the way she did, I love that everyone admits that she has a vocal sound that needed hours, and specific training and dedication to get to that level and she did it.
Then of course we had Chris Martin and the Beatles being acknowledged once again. We have so much to be proud of …. DIFFERENT GENRES and should be encouraged for the young aspiring artists in the UK to see that anything is possible. But this year, I decided to approach my GRAMMY analysis a bit differently. Instead of just focusing on the technical aspects of vocal and performance skills, I brought my 13-year-old daughter, Isabella, into the conversation. I’ve taken her to rehearsals, TV meetings, and music events since she was little, and I’ve noticed she has some pretty strong opinions about voices and performances. So, I thought it would be fun to get her thoughts on this year’s nominees.
Isabella’s Take on the GRAMMYs 2025:
Before the winners were announced, Isabella went all in on her investigation. She spent hours listening to the nominated songs, reading reviews, and even scouring TikTok for extra insights. She was so dedicated, it was like watching a budding journalist at work. And while our opinions often differed, her passion for music and her research process really impressed me. Here’s what she had to say about the GRAMMYs:
Billie Eilish
Isabella’s pick for Record of the Year, Best Pop Soul Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album was clear: Billie Eilish. Specifically, she said “Birds of a Feather” should win these categories, because of how great the vocals are. “It’s so good, I loved it so much, and I play this album on repeat every day,” she told me. She also said that “Hit Me Hard and Soft” is a really touching album, and deserves Album of the Year.
When I asked her why she chose Billie over other artists, her response was simple: “Mummy, come on, we live, laugh, and love Billie.” Classic teenage response, right?
Song of the Year
Isabella picked “Die with a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars as Song of the Year. She even said, “Gaga and Bruno is a duo I always needed.” I was honestly impressed by that phrase, it sounded so mature and thoughtful for a 13-year-old. We both agreed that this pairing was magical.
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
Isabella’s choice here was also “Die with a Smile.” Her reasoning? “It’s a match made in heaven for everyone.” She’s definitely got a way with words!
Best New Artist
Isabella shocked me here by picking Doechii as the Best New Artist. I didn’t expect her to mention this artist, but it makes sense when I think about it. Isabella hears Doechii on Capital Radio and TikTok all the time. She said, “She talks during the song and it has a really good beat. No one else does that and she doesn’t care.” It’s clear Isabella’s in tune with the latest trends in music, and I have to admit, I loved hearing her perspective on an artist I wasn’t as familiar with.
Our Shared Thoughts on UK Artists:
Finally, one thing we both agreed on was that the UK artists deserved all the recognition they received at the 2025 GRAMMYs. The UK has produced so much musical talent that resonates across generations. We will always celebrate them lyrically, vocally, and their musicality.
The GRAMMYs: More Than Just an Awards Show
As a mother and daughter, it was so special to share this experience and dive into the GRAMMYs together. We both had different opinions on the winners and nominees, but in the end, music is all about personal connection. Whether it’s Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, or an artist like Doechii who’s still making her way up, the beauty of the GRAMMYs is that they bring diverse voices and perspectives into the spotlight. It’s a celebration of talent, creativity, and hard work.
And even though we had our own favourites, we agreed that the show must go on, and it did, bigger and better than ever. Here’s to another unforgettable year in music!
